The veldesdoorn is an important resource for insects, and especially for ladybugs that eat the insects attracted by the tree. In the past, in Britain, it was believed that hanging some branches at the door would stop bats from entering the house, and passing them above a child would erase all traces of witchcraft!
Flowers from May to June, and the seeds ripen from September to October
