At the Rengerspark we find a cultivar of the Wych elm named ‘Exoniensis’, that receives specific common names:

Common name: pluimiep (NL), plomiperenbeam (Fryske), Exeter Elm (EN)

Native range: Europe, Caucasus and Turkey

Pollination: Wind

Seed dspersal: wind, water

Conservation: There are no assessments for this species cultivar.

The pluimiep flowers appear before the leaves in spring and the seeds fall between April and July, and remain viable for few days only. The health of this tree species has been threaten since 1970s due to a fungal disease known as the Dutch elm disease that is transmitted by the elm bark beetle.
